Dr. Wan’s research interest is in the architecture, urban design, and visual culture of the early modern world. His PhD thesis, titled Intertwined Genealogies: Dutch, Chinese, and Colonial Indonesian Architecture of Philanthropy, 1640-1740, has received awards from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation that recognise international and interdisciplinary scholarship. He was previously lecturer at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and the University of Washington. At the University of Hong Kong, he teaches courses on architecture and Renaissance-Baroque art with a global perspective.
