This course explores the history of East Asian architecture from early times to the present with an emphasis on religious, cultural, economic, and political contexts. Key structures including urban planning are taken as case studies for in depth discussion. Emphasis is placed on learning how to read the functional considerations and the symbolic meanings of works of architecture.
