Gwangju Biennale Panel Discussion

A full range of contemporary art events took place in Hong Kong towards the end of March. On 23 March, we were delighted to have invited the curatorial team of Gwangju Biennale 2016, representatives of Hong Kong Arts Development Council, as well as local students and professionals in this field to come together at HKU for a panel discussion. The event started with a presentation by Binna Choi, curator of Gwangju Biennale 2016, exploring the potentials of a simple but fundamental question “What does art do?”. It was then followed by an inspiring conversation between Michelle Wong, assistant curator of Gwangju Biennale 2016, and Annie Wan, participating artist of Gwangju Biennale 2016. Johnson Chang and Dr. Koon joined their discussion at a later stage. The panel then opened the floor to questions. Students from different institutions participated with great enthusiasm and the Department shall look forward to collaborating with Gwangju Biennale for more ‘Infra-School’ satellite programmes in the near future.
